A project manager drowns in routine but is needed by people
A project managers work is people, decisions, coordination. But a huge part of the time is eaten by routine: writing plans, collecting statuses, preparing reports, updating tables. AI takes over this routine, freeing the manager for the main thing — working with the team, decisions, removing obstacles.
What AI does in project management
- Planning: break a goal into tasks, estimate timelines, build a plan.
- Statuses: gather updates and combine into a clear picture.
- Reports: prepare a report for the team, management, client.
- Risks: help see in advance what could go wrong.
- Communication: drafts of emails, messages, meeting agendas.
What it looks like
I was tasked with launching a new website section in a month. Help me sketch a plan.
I will sketch a plan skeleton (let us tune it to your reality):\nStages: 1) Week 1 — gather requirements, design mockups, approval. 2) Weeks 2-3 — development (markup, functionality, content). 3) Week 3 — testing in parallel. 4) Week 4 — fixes, final check, launch.\nKey tasks per stage, who is responsible, dependencies (design must be ready before development).\nRisks: approval delays, underestimating the development scope — add a buffer.\nThis is a base — tell me about the team and specifics and I will detail it. Then you lead the project and people, AI helps with plans and routine.
The main principle
AI is a managers assistant, not the manager itself. Plans, reports, estimates from AI are drafts and hints you adapt to the teams reality. Managing people, motivation, complex decisions, a feel for the situation stay with the human. AI gives more time to be a good leader.
Course rule: AI removes project-management routine, but planning against reality, working with people and decisions rest with the manager.
